Daniel H. Rellstab teaches linguistics, intercultural communication and semiotics at the University of Vaasa, Finland. He authored a study on Charles S. Peirce and wrote on language and identity in multilingual contexts. Recently, he co-edited Dialog und (Inter-)Kulturalität. Theorien, Konzepte, empirische Befunde (with Simon Meier and Gesine L. Schiewer, 2014).

Es lamentable que el tenue perfil que se tiene de Arminio en el contexto hispano sea negativo. Se conoce más el aspecto controversial de sus escritos, entendible en el sentido de que nació, vivió y murió en una época marcada por intensas e importantes controversias vinculadas a la formación de la teología en los siglos XVI y XVII. Con frecuencia, se conoce a Arminio como el pastor-profesor que se opuso a la doctrina de la predestinación absoluta e incondicional de la teología reformada (supralapsarianismo) de su época. Se desconoce casi por completo que su pensamiento es comprehensivo y que abarca casi todas las doctrinas de la teología cristiana. No se le ha dado el lugar e importancia que merece como teólogo de primer orden. Hasta donde se conoce, no existe una traducción al español de las obras de Jacobo Arminio que, en inglés, están contenidas en tres grandes tomos, con un total de 1,700 páginas. El Dr. Garnett Teakell escribió una tesis titulada "Un libro de texto a nivel universitario sobre la vida y obras de Jacobo Arminio" (inédita), que contiene una excelente traducción de algunas de las obras principales de Arminio, que ha sido de gran ayuda ahorrándonos tiempo y trabajo en algunas traducciones. Lo problemático en el caso de la traducción de las obras de Arminio, es que usa una sintaxis muy compleja, acorde con su estilo escolástico y filosófico del siglo XVI. Escribió en su propia lengua (el holandés) o en latín, luego se tradujo al inglés y ahora del inglés al español. Además, utiliza palabras que ya no se usan o que han cambiado de significado y de impacto emocional. Estas son algunas de las razones por las que hemos decidido que el libro sea una combinación de texto de lectura, exposición y evaluación. El lector hispano, que por lo general no tiene acceso a las obras de Arminio en inglés, necesita conocer las fuentes primarias del pensamiento arminiano hasta donde le sea posible. El presente estudio tiene como uno de sus propósitos principales que el estudiante hispano lea, analice y evalúe el texto de Arminio y que no dependa de fuentes secundarias.
